Birch Natural: Organic Quality at a More Accessible Price
Birch (owned by Helix) offers a more accessible entry point into certified organic mattresses than Avocado. It uses GOTS organic cotton, organic wool, and Talalay latex — with GREENGUARD Gold certification — at a price typically $300–$600 lower than comparable Avocado models.
Construction
Organic cotton cover → organic wool comfort layer → 1 inch of Talalay latex → pocketed steel coil support system → high-density base foam. The Talalay latex in Birch is a different process than Avocado’s Dunlop latex — it’s slightly lighter, softer, and more responsive, making the Birch feel less firm than the Avocado without the pillow top.
Feel and Performance
Medium feel (5/10). The Talalay latex provides a springy, responsive feel — better for combination sleepers than Avocado’s firmer Dunlop construction. Edge support is good. Motion isolation is moderate (coil system + thin latex). Temperature regulation is excellent — organic wool wicks moisture and the latex doesn’t trap heat.
Birch vs. Avocado
Birch: More accessible price, medium feel out of the box, Talalay latex (lighter, more responsive). Avocado: More rigorous GOLS certification, firmer feel, longer warranty (25 vs. 25 years), thicker latex layer, no base foam (fully natural). If budget is a concern or you prefer a medium feel, Birch is the better entry point.
